You likely will be attaching back from the side a few inches and down from the top of the gate a few inches and up a few inches from the bottom of the gate typically. So, if you measured it, you likely are just under 8' foot in length. So, technically the 8' footer would work (because you would likely be under 96" inches), but just barely. This would only leave about 4 or 5" inches of overlap with your main brace and the extension piece. So, in your case I would recommend the 9' footer or the 10' footer for a little better overlap of your two pieces for more rigidity.
