These books are written by good Psychologists, Therapists and/or Psychiatrists, and offer insights into various problems with mental health in particular and young people, that I wouldn't think of on my own, (deeper in the problem, all aspects of issues are covered and touched on in detail to really help all of the people that use it). They are absolutely EXCELLENT therapy! All therapies that are in these workbooks can be used in steps by a Therapist as well, and, in some cases with some disorders, rather comorbid or primary; in this case particularly, 'cutting', may be extremely 'private', and, parents or those caring for a child my have difficulty getting the child to accept help from a Therapist or Dr., when this is happening, (HOWEVER, this book alone can work as a great stepping stone to later accept even more help and help them cope with this issue and even get it out of the way and on to living a much more healthy life!) We have a family friend that had this problem with her Daughter, and, this book was a catalyst to helping her accept the help that she was refusing before, because this might be VERY PRIVATE, for them, and, the book allows them to take the information that on some level they want and know they need; and start the steps, to getting things better for them. It worked in this young girls case. This was comorbid to something else in our case, so we didn't have as much of the private with this, which was better, but didn't take away at all from the absolute usefullness of this book! I bought it to help me understand how to help my teen granddaughter and have now passed it on to her hoping it will help her deal with her feelings in healthier ways. It has given me a clearer understanding of why she cuts and how I can respond. The negative...later in the workbook previous pages are referred to but the page numbers are incorrect.
