I like ceiling the seams and then spraying it with Scotchgard. It's gentle enough that it doesn't hurt the material, and it's super easy to apply. You can tell from the photos I took that it dries completely. I took up before photo and then after photo to show what it looks like dried. It doesn't change the appearance of the fabric at all. I had enough left over to treat a couple of chairs on the deck, and the cushions stay pretty dry too.
