It has really helped me to add another element to my swim workouts. I did have an issue with the battery in the first one I ordered. The people at FINIS were quick to respond and sent me a new one immediately which I received within 2 business days of contacting them. ### ⭐⭐⭐ 3.0 out of 5 stars Swimming heart rate monitor *by T***P on Reviewed in the United States on September 18, 2013* I signed up for health club subscription, and started working out by swimming, so as to not hurt myself. My immediate goal was to get my heart rate up to 70% for my age, and sustain it for the duration of the workout. I have been using the Finis Aqua Pulse for about a month now. Other reviews reported problems with the unit reporting incorrect heart rates, and that the unit would report false rates above and below.My unit at first would hunt at least 10 to 20 beats above and below when I first started using it. Then it settled down an would be with in a couple of beats compared to our medical grade blood pressure/pulse rate monitor. Even when it settles in, the unit would still hunt above and below my avarage heart rate.In addition, the manual stated that the unit had a battery life of 8 hours +. Mine would only go for about 2 1/2 hours. When I called customer service. they told me that the 8 hour battery live is only if you have the unit outputting heart rate every 5 minutes. I have mine set to every 20 seconds. The unit charges via a USB cable that comes with the unit. I asked customer service if they were comming out with a firmware upgrade to correct the hunting issue. They said no. They also said that they had no plans in the works for a newer better unit.With all the FINIS Aqua issues, I still find this heart rate monitor useful. I just average the reports in my head. ### ⭐ 1.0 out of 5 stars bad investment *by T***N on Reviewed in the United States on December 16, 2012* I've had to give up running, thanks to bad knees, and now swim for cardiovascular fitness. I like to keep my heart rate in the 140 range -- used a Garmin Forerunner 305 while running, Wanted a monitor for swimming so I don't have to stop periodically to count pulse. The Garmin, with a chest strap, doesn't work in the water. The description of the AquaPulse made it sound like the PERFECT device for my needs, designed to monitor heart rate while swimming!. Unfortunately I can't find a single "pro" to describe the device. The cons: the push-button controls are tiny and nearly impossible to operate (simple push buttons). It is designed to mount on the strap of your goggles or mask -- it is big, heavy and clumsy and aggravating. It has a speaker which announces your heart rate at intervals you select -- supposedly transmitting the sound through bones. It is inaudible. It uses a clip (a modification of a pulse oximeter sensor) on the ear lobule to sense the pulse rate; it is uncomfortable, and simply doesn't work -- when I interrogate it for current HR, it says "sensing". The first time I hooked it up, it reported a heart rate of 101 -- but my carotid pulse was actually 65. Turned it off, then back on to see if it would reset -- and all I get now is "sensing". My opinion: this is a product for which there is a need, but was not researched and tested before going to market. I'm going to see if Amazon will refund.
