It is a little tight, but has not left any scratches on the gun and will release with a sharp tug. It is very secure and wont fall out. The problem is that this is a significant amount of weight to be carrying around the neck, and after all day carry it can be uncomfortable. Might want to take some fine sand paper around the edges, they're a bit rough against the skin. Holds my NAA .22lr fairly good, it's a little loose inside the space but will not come out. I think it's made for the .22mag as well. It points up at one end, but that's not too big a deal. The cord is a little short, but you can always put on your own, I happen to be ok with it. As far as being choked to death with the cord getting cought on a branch or whatever, you ever wear a tie? Some ideas I've thought were good were to use a cord- lock instead of a knot, or to tie a type of slip knot using a blood knot or a fisherman's knot on one side only, (I cant remember which one), letting the other standing end be free.
