So if he's eaten but later is *actually* hungry, he has access without having food splayed out. He's a big boy (was almost 16 pounds when I adopted him 6 mos ago) and needs to drop a few (and has but a little more won't hurt.) I see him staring at the dish or the food in the hole sometimes trying to decide if he's hungry enough to dig some out (which means it's working.) Sometimes he'll paw some out and sometimes he'll just go to the water or go do something else so I know he wasn't really that hungry and if food was "just there" he probably would have munched down for no real reason. Also when he paws some out of the hole, it's just *some* so again, he's gotta think about if he's hungry enough and get some more instead of just munching on whatever's splayed out in front of him. I've seen him do that a few times too where he goes in once or twice and sits and stares deciding if he wants more. Easy to clean and my cats like them. The top fits well but does not snap in place. The only thing keeping this from five stars is they need to be wider at the base.
