When I put the flue collar on I put a ring of fire rope around the inside edge, did the same with the door. No leaks, no smoke in the house (except if you opened the door too fast) I also lined it with 2" fire brick on the bottom. You could touch the bottom of the stove and it was warm but not hot....I miss that stove, will be making another soon! **Q: Is it possible to add a cooking surface? Or is there a separate accessory?** A: Technically, people have been doing that for a while with barrel stove evaporators (for maple sap). You cut a rectangle in the "top" based on your size needs (with an angle grinder or whatever you have). You can also create a small lip from the barrel itself if you cut a little farther horizontally than you need, and then bend inward with pliers. Just attach/place whatever surface you want (steel sheet, cast iron grate, pans). **Q: Do you need a blower?** A: These barrel stoves heat a large area using radiant heat only. You don't "need" a blower but many people do use the Magic Heat reclaimer in the stove pipe and they work really well to get even more heat from the unit.
