It had some discoloration where the paper was wrapped around it with the plastic. It didn't have any chemical smell. The material is okay in quality; you get what you pay for. It doesn't compare to the quality of the mats at my company's gym but I didn't want to spend as much. My hands and feet left prints on the mat but it doesn't look like there was any color transfer. I don't really like how the mat feels but maybe because it is made of eco-friendly material, which is what I wanted.
