They work, too. I have experienced excellent results both for winter sprouting and summer seed starting outside. Leftover plastic containers from frozen foods and kitchen products make useful trays for the plugs in a sunny spot indoors or on the patio/balcony in the shade. Keep water in the tray so the plugs are always damp and you will soon see tiny green leaves emerging from the hole at the center of the plug. This assumes you actually got the seed into the center.
