I’ve been setting up my shop at home so I don’t have to go into work every time I need to get something done and a tig welder was a priority for me, so I started looking around. I came across this little beauty and after reading all of the good reviews and watching the in depth videos weldpro has put out on it, I decided to pull the trigger. That was on Friday, it is now Tuesday and it’s set up in my garage ready to go, so shipping was unbelievably fast. Opening the box I immediately noticed the care these guys take in packing the machine. Custom corner protectors in the box, perfectly fit foam around the welder and a box with attachments filling in the remaining space. For most people packing probably doesn’t mean much, but for me that is a huge indicator of things to come. The machine feels like it is well constructed, it will take some time getting used to the adjustments panel just because I’m so used to my other welders, but it is still fairly intuitive. The attachments are premium which is insane considering the price point. The pedal has a really nice smooth feel and controls amperage nicely and in addition it comes with a finger trigger which I will put to use when I’m twisted into a pretzel welding roll cages. The ground cable has a quick connection to the welder and a premium T clamp, not a junky ground clamp. The torch is CK worldwide so obviously it will be good but reading through the specs on this machine I expected a CK17 ridged torch with the super flex cable, which I would have been happy about, but instead I received the CK17 super flex with a flex torch head, even better!! I haven’t messed with any settings other than amperage and straight out the gate it’s putting down decent welds. I’m excited to dive into this thing and get it fine tuned so I can really see what it’s capable of. This machine does come with a hand control button and even nicer, it has upslope and downslope features which allow for a kind of variable control amperage just by using the button and the slope features, but it is an air/gas-cooled unit, not water cooled. Water cooling usually doesn't become an issue until you start getting up toward 200 amps and over. However if you're not welding very thick metals the air-cooled units are usually all that's needed. Thanks** A: Hi and thanks for your interest in Weldpro equipment. Your question is a very difficult one to put an exact number to especially when talking about very thin metal. So much of successfully welding very thin metal has to do with experience and technique. You can weld extremely thin metal with a variable amperage TIG welder if you are experienced in doing so. Additionally having features like this weldpro AC DC Tig such as pulse helps even more in welding thin metals I can't give you a number because again it is a matter of experience and technique while using the advanced features available with this machine along with other techniques such as heat sinks. Also remember while welding extremely thin metal you don't necessarily need filler rod. I've welding 2 razor blades together easily with this machine. On the other hand it's a little bit easier to put a number on thicker metal. I would say quarter inch would be no problem, but even heavier metal can be welded if you consider beveling and multipass welding. TIG welding is a great way to multipass weld. And don't forget this machine has a very capable stick welding mode which when combined with beveling and multipass can very easily weld 1/2 inch metal or thicker if it's prepared properly. With all that said TIG welding is a more precise form of welding and usually isn't the first choice for long runs of extremely heavy metal and that is where the stick welding function of this machine comes in very handy **Q: Can argon post flow be set?** A: Thanks for your interest in the AC DC Tig.
