The description says 2" x 3" but it doesn't appear that small in the picture. Thank you.** A: The meter in the picture is, indeed, the GMT-319. It's dimensions are: HEIGHT (5 3/4"), WIDTH (3 3/4"), DEPTH (1 1/2").The dimensions you list in your question, however, are for the GMT 312.And I own both meters. **Q: for voltage measurements, does it need battery to operate?** A: It shouldn't need a battery for voltage tests. Battery is needed for continuity testing, and resistance testing. This is a theoretical answer. Most of my meter usage is for simple continuity, 12 vDC, and 120 vAC checks, and I prefer analog to digital meters for tasks like those. I ordered this based on good reviews and price but I'll probably send it back. It's a bit too big and perhaps a bit delicate for getting banged around with my pliers, hammer, wrenches, and chisels and stuff.
