Review: It's £700 cheaper than the EOS R, so quite literally this is the EOS R on a budget. - (Ive posted some images I've taken with the camera with this review, so if you're wondering about picture quality you have examples.) The EOS Rp is an amazingly capable camera for £700 less than the EOS R; its the EOS R if the EOS R was more affordable. The only real compromise you're making in my opinion if you're planning to use this as a camera for photography is the shutter rate, its only 5 frames per second, so don't expect to be doing sports photography with this camera, at least not comfortably. The 26.3MP sensor borrowed from the 6D Mark II is amazing for the price, the sensor from a £1700 camera fit into a £950(at the time of buying) form factor, with 14 stops of dynamic range, you're able to see shadows and a blue sky well, and using the newer .CR3 RAW format editing has never been easier being able to bring those shadows and highlights back even more. The camera is VERY small compared to normal DSLR's, when compared to the 6D mark II its smaller in EVERY dimension, meaning it could be a very handy travel camera. The Canon colour science this sensor uses is of course amazing, canons colour science being second to none in my opinion, photos have never looked more life like in a digital format! The camera is very customisable, being able to change what buttons do to your liking, being able to personalise the viewfinder display with different information as well as the flip out screen. The autofocus is amazing, having over 4000 focusing points. I will say though that at long range the focus does miss a bit, but if you like portraiture, car photography, street photography, basically anything from close to medium-far range this camera will lock on like a rocket. 10/12 the camera gets focusing perfect, I've had it for a month(I received a defective unit from a different site before purchasing here) and have never had to manual focus with this camera, I've always gotten the picture I want to get. You also get touch and drag focusing, instead of using a joystick or buttons, which is so much more intuitive when doing things like landscape photography or portraiture. The camera also has face AND eye tracking, and, again, never misses a shot, every time crystal clear eyes and face shots, even in low light. Focus tracking on moving subjects is good, I can't complain about that either. Another big plus coming from EF mount cameras is you can adapt EF lenses to the RF mount on ANY eos R camera, which is a big plus if its your first time going mirrorless. For the price this camera is a 9/10, it's not the EOS R exactly, but if you're on a tighter budget this camera is amazing.
Review: Dinky but feature rich - Full Frame 'Travel camera'. The pictures should give you some idea as to its size compared to a full sized DSLR which with a L lens weighs more than a house brick. The Canon Eos RP weighs a fraction of this but seems to provide a similar flight deck of features. If you already own one of the RP's bigger brothers, you may feel the RP has a bit of a Christmas cracker tactile feel; the edges are a little too defined and the battery door is a little too close to the edge making it vulnerable to attacks. The Layout is what you come to expect but I feel Canon could have made better use of the top with its two larger on/off dials which could have been made slightly smaller leaving enough space for a few more ‘quick select’ buttons or even a small quick glance info display. Both viewers are clear, not the best but I’m more than happy although the fold-out one has enough space to accommodate something slightly larger. Apart from the displays there’s no indicator that the thing's on so if you are using just the viewfinder remember the on/off switch. In use the camera focuses quickly but to make sure you’re not disappointed with your efforts lens image stability is a must. On reviewing images there seems to be a bit of a lag after pressing the shutter and that’s with a fast card but it’s not a deal breaker. So where does it fit in? I love its size. I'm a big fan of Canon I bought a D20 in 2004 and then a D5Mk3 2012 which takes beautiful pictures but the lion's share of my pictures are taken on vacations and Canon DSLR's are just too big. Being faithful to Canon's I've tried various EOS M’s but I've found the lack of a incorporated viewfinder to be a hard pill to swallow. So, my 'go-to' travel companion for many years has been the Panasonic TZ60 which has GPS and a EVF but after being amazed how much iPhone cameras have come on in the last few years and the fact they are fairly discreet when walking around cities I thought I would revisit the full frame format and see how small I could go. In reality to make the most out of the RP's compact size you are going to need one of the RF primes 24mm/35mm both of which have Image stabilization. I've tried one of my L lens with the RF to EF converter but it defeats the object of the exercise. On a final note the RF is a 2019 camera so it’s getting on, it would be nice if Canon did a refresh and they continued with the same miniature size but squeezed in a more rugged /semi pro/ weather seals feel, this would then make it the ultimate travel companion.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can the battery be charged in body via usb?**
A: yes but too slow to bother with

**Q: Can you use cannon D6 lenses on this?**
A: Hello, I am unclear what D6 lenses are. Do you mean EF series lenses that fit a Canon EOS 6D?
The Canon EOS RP is a member of Canon R series of Camera products which has a dedicated set of EF-R series lenses.
The EOS RP Camera requires an adaptor ring to accept EF series lenses.
The Canon SKU for these adaptor rings are:
Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R#2971C005 £119.90
Canon Control Ring Mount Adapter EF-EOS R #2972C005 £239.99

**Q: Do you need an adapter with the 24-105 lens or does it fit straight on? Thanks 🙏**
A: The 24 - 105 lens comes fitted to the eos rp camera .I purchased the viltrox EF - EOS R auto focus mount adaptor to take my Canon EF / EF-S Lenses that I have.

**Q: Does the pull out viewfinder display the picture and video to be taken/shot , or just video? Cheers.**
A: It provides a live view for both photos and video, and also a review of both after you have taken them.
It also displays a variety of customizable information about settings as well as being touch sensitive for selecting focus points, and adjusting the settings.
This camera is totally brilliant btw... and the lens is killer!
