After dismantling an entertainment unit for disposal, I decided to keep the doors from the unit and attempt to make a couple of chalkboards for my daughter's rooms. I removed all hardware, and sanded down the wood before applying the chalk paint. I used a standard paintbrush, applied a few light coats, allowed to dry, then did a final coat to rid of the appearance of any visible brush strokes. The boards came out nicely, and after installing some mounting hardware on the back side of each, I hung on the walls. Chalk works perfectly (although does come out lightly if you use cheap chalk, so consider buying decent chalk), and erases without issue (no chipping or scratching of the paint while removing chalk). If I were to do it over again, I would have used something like a sponge brush (no brush strokes to worry about). Some quick tips: This WILL dry out quickly, so do make sure you cover the paint well and keep it away from the elements if you intend to keep it a while. Perhaps wear gloves if you are a messy person (like me). The paint will stay on the skin for a bit. Overall, great paint; wonderful price.
