It is made from bacteria formed from saccharomyces cerevisae. This is the best known vegetarian source of Vitamin B-12. **Q: Is this the methylcobalamin form?** A: Swanson lied. No fruits/vegetables contain B-12 in any human-usable form (Except for VERY small amounts in certain types of tempeh & nori). Not even the nutritional yeast they claim sources it on the nutrition label (Saccharomyces cerevisiae). The only guaranteed way to get it is from meat, fish, milk, or eggs (non-vegan)... Created in a lab directly (usually Cyanocobalamin which leaves cyanide accumulation in the body... Though it CAN be further altered with other chemicals to turn into Methylcobalamin, though then that's still not food-sourced)... Or certain bacteria which can produce Methylcobalamin as a by-product of being fed certain compounds in a controlled environment. Nutritional yeast doesn't naturally contain B-12; it's always either not present, or fortified manually, & that's USUALLY the synthetic Cyanocobalamin version, unless the company making that yeast specifies that they added Methylcobalamin instead from some other source. So either this company/seller is using pre-packaged fortified nutritional yeast from another company & mistakenly thinking the B-12 came with it naturally, thus they don't know much about their own resources...
