Plug and play.....it just works! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good value *by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 27 August 2026* Good item ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Solid device, works well if average in performance for ripping duties. *by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 22 August 2026* Having had bad experiences with a skinny USB 3 external type of drive I have been looking for a replacement full size SATA drive for use in an enclosure. I had been using a CD/DVD ROM (rather old - like 20 years or so recovered from an old desktop) which ripped any CD I put in the device (accuraterip) - until the drawer failed to operate. Having had a bad try with a replacement CD/DVD rewriter from the US which was hopeless (and returned) I decided to take a cheapish route with this drive. It works as well and a bit faster than my old skinny drive when strong and fit. Peaking at about 33x on an average rip - not stellar but I can live with it. On a problematic CD it still failed on a track like my old skinny external drive - but my CD ROM handled it before it broke - a useful test. I actually wonder if a lot of the issues with these drives is how tolerant they are to the variability in things like the balance of a disk as it rotates. My view of this drive is that it is average. It seems solid tho. Way better than a skinny drive and gives a good level of confidence in use. Rewriting not tested. Oh for a CD ROM - buying an old one on ebay tho is a risk if any internals perish, become brittle etc with time.
