As Adorable As I Had Hoped!

*by L***T on Reviewed in the United States on March 20, 2013*

I bought the Pride and Prejudice BabyLit when my dear friend had her first baby girl and it's since become a huge favorite with both Mummy and daughter. When I heard that Sense and Sensibility was also getting the baby treatment I was elated because my friend was expecting again and it would make the perfect baby gift for her second daughter, I pre-ordered it instantly. The only reason I'm giving this review 4 stars instead of 5 is because I was frustrated by how many times the release date was pushed back, The original release date was almost 2 months before my friends due date but it was changed so many times that I ended up having to buy a different book at the baby's birth only to have my original gift arrive a week later. I didn't mind (the more books the better!) but it did throw a wrench in my otherwise perfect plan. The book itself is highly adorable, the artwork the same clean, fun pictures as the P&P edition. The opposites theme is a perfect homage to the original work and is full of words that will be useful to early language development (Big for "Northland Park" and Little for "Barton Cottage") as well as opposites that only the parents will truly appreciate ("Married" and "Single" are particularly humorous). When I paged through the book before wrapping it up I instantly decided that I'd have to buy myself a copy (even though I'm single with no children) just to keep on my shelf and look cute. Some of the complaints lodged against the BabyLit books were that the vocabulary is too advanced for babies. I agree, but I see that as a plus rather than a downside. My friend claims that her daughter (who isn't even two weeks old yet) completely loves the book and has had it read to her several times already because Mum and Grandma love it so much. The parents get more enjoyment out of the snarky comments and unique phrases in the BabyLit then in normal toddler books which seem to induce the parents to read theses books to the children more and in my world the more a baby is read to the better! In short: Adorable book, perfect for parents who want something a little different for their baby or for really anyone who loves classic literature.

    Train up a child...

*by 8***Y on Reviewed in the United States on March 3, 2021*

I am a Jane Austen fan, my daughters are Jane Austin fans, and now my grand-daughter is, as well. The book is beautifully illustrated and constructed with quality. It can stand up to the rough treatment of a toddler who is quite literally cutting her teeth on true literature! :)

Opposites Primer - No Plot Focus

*by J***K on Reviewed in the United States on December 15, 2015*

I want to like this as we like the Pride and Prejudice primer and Emma primer, but it just doesn't seem to be up to the same level in its pictures. The pictures for many and few can be confusing for a young toddler because the background for "few" is so busy that it looks like there is more going on than on the opposing "many". Married and single can be explained by parents, but it is still a bit abstract for our little one (age 2).Otherwise, the primer is a charming example of opposites found in Sense & Sensibility without any plot.
