I took this rod to Alaska for a week of fishing for Salmon. It was perfect and performed flawlessly. I used 20# braid with a 15# flouro leader. I caught nice Silvers, Sockeyes, and some large Pinks. Highly recommend this for a medium action rod rated up to 17# mono. I did have several fish break the leader but no problem from the rod at all.

Amazing travel rod. All the sensitivity and power you need for fishing soft plastics. Every bit as capable as my one piece rods, including my Johnny Morris Signature Series and Shimano Crucial.

Great travel rod. I was advised by a friend to buy a power lower than normal but I wanted a heavier rod so I got the medium heavy. I'd say it's more of an extra fast heavy rod or fast extra heavy spinning rod. The medium is probably a solid MH fast rod. Definitely get a lighter power than you are looking for.
