I recently purchased this bandsaw to replace a 30+ year old 10 inch, still-working, but now very dated, Craftsman bandsaw, after many years of reliable use. It takes a little time to assemble the Rikon bandsaw correctly, and get everything adjusted straight and true to the blade. However, once everything is setup the bandsaw cuts very well. The toolless guide-bearing adjustments make setting up the blade very easy. The tracking and tension adjustments also work very well to keep the blade cutting straight, or curved, when necessary. The bandsaw comes with a nice adjustable rip fence, and I also purchased the Rikon miter sled (not included) with the bandsaw. The bandsaw has onboard storage for the assembly/adjusting tools and the rip fence. This Rikon bandsaw is very quiet while running and cutting. I’m happy I finally got one as it’s been an amazing tool and opened new doors and possibilities. This saw has had zero issues cutting through hardwoods in both small curvy cuts and rip cuts. It’s very easy to set up and it’s made simply small cuts safe and easy. Although it may take an extra second to cut through vs my Cabinet saw. This is a pleasant simple machine that I come back to whenever possible. This is also small enough that I leave it on the end of my assembly table. In the future if I need to rip large pieces, sure I can upgrade. But so far this has done everything if needed and taking up a tiny space. The Rikon 10-3061 is a wonderful saw IF you use it for its intended use. Resawing 3 1/2" wood is defiantly not what this saw is designed for. I frequently make short cuts on hardwood with mine, such as 4/4 oak. Anything heavier, I turn to my Laguna 14 twelve. Since you are asking this question I assume that you do not have access to a large bandsaw. It can be done on a good quality 10" table saw by making two passes. Do not try this if the 2x is not perfectly straight. Bottom line, buy the proper equipment, or find a buddy that can cut it for you. **Q: What are the dimensions of the column itself? (Width x depth; height not needed, for mounting aux. miter gauge, etc.)?** A: The width including mounted miter gauge is 23 1/2” X 15” deep. **Q: What is the best machine to straighten the wood after cutting it with the band saw ? the jointer or the thicknesse planer but not table machine** A: A jointer. As an alternative, a tapering jig and table saw will establish a straight line provided you can cut entirely through the work. (I wanted to mention that since it's never possible to tell if it was danged at the factory or in transit.) I chose this one since it uses a lot of cast iron and heavier parts to help cut stability. It's a pain to move around, so don't expect it to be portable for benchtop use. However, it's still a great option for a small workspace with a mobile stand. Dust collection is mediocre, but not enough to get in the way. External tool storage seems like an afterthought, I recommending using magnets instead. I'm slightly disappointed it can't resaw 6 inch wide boards to match a standard jointer, but you can only expect so much in small package. What ever you do, make sure to set it up correctly and get a new blade.
