They do not get linty or start falling apart, and are just abrasive enough to actually remove the staining without being too rough for the face. The powder and brush were also easy to use, and the cat really enjoyed the brush applicator. I did notice that he stayed cleaner and dryer with the powder than he had been before. It has been a week now, and I have cleaned his eyes another time, still with no signs of irritation. Overall, I am happy with this product and would recommend it to anyone with a particularly gunky cat. Also, I do think the starter kit is a good value for your first experience with the product.
