The kitten didn't enjoy the long car ride and much meowing and scratching ensued, but the carrier was good and fit perfectly behind the front seats. Now we're home and ever though it's only been one day since her harrowing experience, she's already back to napping in the carrier. I guess it's her safe spot, which is great. I plan on buying another for my mom's cats because they loved the thing.
