Like the Nikki Heat books, it is such an easy read and that's not a bad thing. Sometimes you want a deep and meaningful, thought-provoking read... other times you want pure escapism and that is what 'Castle' delivers each and every time. The book is well written and Derrick Storm (who in my head is basically Nathan Fillion playing Malcolm Reynolds) is a very entertaining character, though perhaps not as engaging as Nikki Heat. There is a wonderful attention to detail in this book and it reads as an homage to pretty much very spy film/novel, but at the same time manages to stand up as a work in its right. Granted, some of it shameless; such as Storm's meeting with one of New York's finest ( I shall say no more, but I think we all saw it coming) Given the comedic nature of Castle, this book could easy have wound being slightly more in the direction of Austin Powers than James Bond, but thankfully this does not occur. Unlike other reviewers I don't have car knowledge, so the book wasn't spoiled by any inaccuracies there, and I just approached the book as it's meant to be - a work of FICTION, to be enjoyed as fun and not taken seriously. Also loved the appearance of Nikki Heat etc, and the names from Castle series - lovely to have the tie-ins. Definitely recommend this book for Castle fans who've wondered what the Derrick Storm books would be like, and who can enjoy it as a bit of fun fiction.
