I believe it says it's water resistant, and while it is slightly I wouldn't say it's great. It turns white where water hits you as if it were running off with the streaks of water. Now, I've yet to be burned while wearing it around water but I'm not usually getting soaked. Over the last few years, my skin has been crazy. I've developed Lupus and mastocytosis. Both of these make trying to find products I can use very difficult. My dermatologist gave me some samples of different mineral sunscreens to try. Out of all of them, this was my favorite. It runs in all the way and doesn't leave a white film on m skin. The cream isn't greasy once it absorbs in. It only takes a little bigger than a drop the size of a quarter to do my face and neck. Personally, I reapply every 2 hours if I'm in the direct sun for a while (for example, on a cruise in the Caribbean). And the best feature, it actually works. I have not burned while wearing it and have still tanned a little. Oh, and it is very moisturizing. After I'm done with the sun and shower/wash my face, my skin feels very nourished. I've used other sunscreens that were hard to wash off and left a weird film. This one does not do that. It also doesn't clog the pores on my face. Checked active and inactive ingredients. **Q: will this prevent tanning?** A: Since I use Solbar to protect me from the sun, I do not know the answer to your question. What I do know is that I have used this product for years and I have been very pleased with it. I **Q: Is this reef safe?** A: No. I don't use this sunscreen anymore, but never burned when I did. But two of the ingredients are not reef safe. We are using Hawaiin Tropic Sheer Touch which states it is reef friendly on the bottle. **Q: Does anyone use it for surfing? If so, how well does it stay on and does it really go on clear?** A: I don't surf, but it is not clear when it goes on. It is white and you can rub it in so it is not white anymore.
