This method is focused on learning whole sentences, for an organic learning of the grammar. It begins with a long passive phase of only reading and listening, and eventually adds active exercises. Most books contain around 100 lessons, with the active phase starting on Lesson 50. The word Assimil comes from assimilation. Couldn't more highly praise the method (Completed the entirety of both the With Ease/Sans Peine and the Using/Perfectionnement for learning French via English, and I'm now 70 lessons through the 77 lesson Sans Peine series for learning Arabic with French). Definitely buy this system. I've tried Rosetta Stone (years and years ago), Fluenz, and Duolingo. Don't waste your time with Duolingo or rosetta stone. Fluenz is great for establishing a firm base in a language (used it for French before starting Assimil), but it is quite boring. If its a testament to quality, then its worth saying that when I decided to start Arabic, I didn't consider purchasing or using anything besides Assimil. Still quite happy with that decision.
