A much needed book for teachers
This book is an excellent place to start for anyone interested in multicultural teaching. It provides a wonderful overview of a plethora of ideas and approaches and makes multicultural teaching accessible to even those who may think they don't understand it. Dr. Souto-Manning's voice is very personable and you almost feel like she is having a conversation with you through her writing. She brings herself into the book and demonstrates for readers how to own your own privileges and disadvantages in society. I love how she uses real-life examples from the classroom, making a much-needed connection between theory and practice. The teachers she writes about are veteran and novice teachers, which makes multicultural education less intimidating for new teachers. I also love how at the end of every chapter there is a reference list with additional books for readers to further explore the concepts discussed. Overall, a great overview and introduction to multicultural education, written in a voice that is accessible to all.
