The Corsair II was later adopted by the U.S. Air Force, including the National Air Guard, to replace the Douglas A-1 Skyraider, the North American F-100 Super Sabre and the Republic F-105 Thunderchief. The aircraft was also exported to Greece in the 1970s, and Portugal and Thailand in the late 1980s. The design of the A-7 airframe was based on the supersonic success Vought F-8 Crusader. It was one of the first combat aircraft to feature a head-up display (HUD), an inertial navigation system (INS) and a turbojet. The Corsair II was hardly an elegant jet with it's snubby nose and gaping air intake, but with the wingtips in the "Up" position and the various avionics bays open for detailing, this kit builds into a pretty spectacular display. Only complaints would be that the panel lines take a good bit of work to bring out. and beyond the two air-to-air missiles you have to add your own ordnance if you want to take advantage of the numerous weapons pylons.
