Copper sulfate results in copper build up in pond sediments and creates a sterile bottom in the pond. Besides many important organisms, it kills beneficial bacteria. Studies with several aquatic species have found copper to be highly to very highly toxic to fish and aquatic life. Trout, koi and juvenile fish of several species are known to be particularly sensitive to copper. Fish kills have been reported after copper sulfate applications for algae control in ponds and lakes. You could be cited for criminal vandalism and hurting wildlife if you use this in a public pond or stream. Please do not kill fish and all life in the pond with this highly toxic product. It is harmless to humans but very toxic to fish. Just dig out the offending plant or get fish that will eat it - as long as its a native fish to the pond.
