It had somewhat of a delayed reaction...I didn't notice the negative effects until 3 am...and I woke up out of a deep sleep that night....I had eaten shiitake mushrooms in a stir fry...a lot of them...and I read there are specific mushroom spores in some shitake mushrooms that can cause severe breathing problems and wheezing. I don't have asthma but this has happened to me once before, not knowing what I had inhaled or what I had eaten or inhaled but during the middle of the night, I woke up short of breath. I could hear this loud wheezing in my chest...I sat up...could barely catch my breath, couldn't breathe if I stayed flat on the bed......I was terrified...should I wake my husband and go to the emergency room? A: You have to start taking about 2 months before going to higher altitudes. Or, that long, or longer when you’re there before they may help.  I had bouts of altitude issues when I moved from So. Calif. to Albuquerque, NM. I was taking this supplement as well as the lung tonic.  After a year, I had no problem hiking mountain trails at 7-10 thousand ft.
