Adjust the plastic band on the back of the helmet to fit your head comfortably, the head size is embossed on the gray head band. To move the shield up and down without it popping it off your head, just place one hand over the top head strap and use the other hand to push shield up or pull it down. As stated by another reviewer, when you tilt your head slightly down, the edge of the oversize shield will protect your neck. On me, the edge will touch about 3 inches belong the center of my collar bone. There is a large black perforated rubber band on the forehead to keep the headgear from moving around. I got it after a moment of carelessness at the tablesaw that resulted in a chunk of wood hitting me in the eye. The shield is very clear and allows for good visibility and good coverage. I've had small rocks, tree bark, dog poop and frog parts splatter across my face. I learned quickly to keep my mouth shut but safety glasses were only protecting my eyes. Besides that, they had a tendency to fog up. For 12 bucks I figured I'd try a full face shield and I'm glad I did. This doesn't fog up and protects most of my face without getting too much in my way. When I stop to take a short break, I can pivot the shield up. It stays on my head nicely and the strap hasn't come undone like I feared it would after a while. I've been using it for weedwacking and chainsawing for two months and think it will at least last through summer.
