When I purchased it, the kit had several years remaining. Incidentally, the old unit I replaced had expired nearly ten years before I replaced it. I used my PFD frequently offshore and when I pulled the lanyard to test it, the 10-year old CO2 cylinder fired off perfectly and fully inflated the vest. In my opinion, expiration dates are very conservative and not a very good indicator of the likelihood that an arming kit will fire automatically...even if just purchased. I would worry more about the reputation of the manufacturer and look for any indications of unusual wear or abuse or tampering with the packaging. The only insurance this unit buys for you is the automatic inflation sequence if the user is not conscious or is unable to inflate the tubes by mouth. **Q: what is the expiration date of these kits?** A: It's not a direct answer to your question but this is what Mustang Survival Customer Service replied to me, "As for the retailers keeping "fresh stock" we do not regulate it. We try and educate our dealers to keep stock rotated. When you call a dealer to purchase the rearm kit request an updated rearm kit from them." were probably in the same boat. **Q: If i purchase this next week, what is the expiration date on this unit** A: Should be sometime in 2023, but if its a critical element to your purchase you may want to contact the seller directly beforehand. Mine was a full 5 years from date of purchase. **Q: why are these twice the price of all other 33-36gram kits?** A: This kit is for HIT auto hydrostatic vests, the type of vest that automatically inflates when you fall in the water.
