Im a homeowner I wasnt intrested in longevity or repat use really so I gave this set a try. I believe another customer review involved the use of a prefabricated "template" or Jig to assure alignment and stability while cutting so my plan was to do the same. Unlike traditional hole saws there is NO PILOT bit to guide you, in my opinion some type of template is a must, freehanding seems impossible. It performed perfectly, I also powered through the Hardie Board subfloor, below that is an old wood floor so of course I switched to a wood bit for that final layer. The bit heated up a bit and shed some of the chrome coating but I was very pleased with the results, I offer these pics to illistrate. I also grabbed for the bits to help bore out the ID of a 1 1/2" PVC pipe fitting in desperation I needed a male adapter to work as a trap adapter. I was shocked when I pulled this off,( I didnt learn that trick in plumbing school). The bits work with an abbrasive cutting edge, the case that it comes with is pretty handy it holds bits tightly in place even when dropped off the work bench. Impressive. I'd buy this again and recommend to a friend. Review: Worked For me... - With a lot of doubt and very narrow expectation I bought this one. Basically I scoped to drill just 2 holes of the largest size and be done with it, if it fails. To my sweet surprise, this thing worked more than I expected. I was able to use almost all the drill bits for our bathroom renovation! Based on the first success, we even extended the tiles all the way to the ceiling. Because now we can easily drill holes for each purpose!! 1. I drilled holes into a 1/4 inch porcelain tiles, ceramic tiles 2. I had drill holes for the 1/2 inch water outlets, shower outlets, electrical conduits, screw holes for shelves 3. Which means, I had use same bit more than twice/thrice Im not a professional but here are few things I have observed. Things to remember 1. ALWAYS use water. Dry drilling is not healthy to the bit and causes a lot of dust and sparks. 2. Use the foam thats provided as a guide. Improves accuracy of the hole by a 1000% and reduces slippage! 3. Start slowly. Set your drill to its lowest speed and with very light pressure. Allow the bit to make scour marks on the tile first. Ofcourse hold the foam tighter!! 4. Drill - Stop - Clean - Continue. I always take the drill bit out, run it in a stream of water and then continue the drilling. This prevents "sludge" that forms with the water and tile dust from accumulating or thickening. What doesnt work 1. The drill bit spindle gets scarred by the chuck holder. Since there are no holding wedges on the spindle, you have to tighten the chuck and thus leave marks on it. 2. This is definitely 2 person job. You need one person to steady the drill (atleast initially) and another person to hold the foam and stream water on the drill bit Considering the fact the closest PRO version is more than double this price, and it worked for an entire reno project for me, I would say it served its purpose! The bits are chrome plated which starts to flake off after the first use. The case is nice and the foam holder works as a guide if you duct tape it down.
