This definitely fits the bill. It is a pricey, but no other pillow has done what this one does. I tried the extra layer, but it was too high for me, so I'm using without. It is by far the thinnest pillow I've used in decades. It also has a hollow spot in the middle so that when you sleep on your back, your neck is positioned correctly. Based on other reviews, it helped many people with their neck issues, and since that was my purpose for pillow shopping, I was willing to try just about anything. After the first night, I noticed a difference. It's now been 4 nights and while the issue is not completely solved, I am well on my way. The hollow spot is kind of weird, but I can tell when I'm laying on my back that my neck is properly supported and not jacked up too far. Lately, I've been waking up on my back a lot, whereas most of my life I've slept on my side quite consistently.
