I like how this book explains the concept of "tricky people", secrets vs. surprised, safety rules, and gives specific strategies of what to say or what to do in different scenarios (like if you're lost in the store, here's what you do and here's what you don't do). You can read it all in one sitting, or break it up if your child's attention span isn't that long, or read only the parts that might apply to you. We read a page, then talk about it, and practice saying the words, like "I need to ask my mom first!" or yelling "NO!" It's not scary to my 3-year-old and the pictures and multiple colors and fonts keep her interest. It also has a Parent's Guide with red flags, prevention tips, etc. Highly recommend this book! I have recommended it countless times to other parents, and calling predators “tricky people” was the wording I never realized I needed. It’s the perfect way to reinforce to my kid that predators are people who make choices and deliberately try to fool other adults from seeing those choices by telling kids to keep secrets. I knew how crucial it was to impart this information to my child (having been the victim of “tricky people” myself) but not knowing how to do it in a way that wouldn’t create fear of everyone. This book was the perfect solution.
