    Hard to Find this Size

This was pricey for what it is. However, I needed this size exactly and none of the hardware store carry it.

    Decent drain pan

Not bad. True to size, 26" I.D. 28" O.D. 2.5" Deep. And the plastic seems decent... injection molded.. no official markings as to it's composition which is stupid and should be required IMHO. I gave it a good fold in half and wrenching around and it's strong and flexible not the stuff that cracks. May get brittle with age, only time will tell. Reminds me of the plastic a half decent outdoor trash can or Rubbermaid bin is made from. It could be thicker but it's good enough. It does have two very gooey stickers on it you will have a fun time removing (don't want to play nice and peel off clean) if you don't want it turning into a mold colony at the first sign of moisture. If you would like a mold colony, get that sticker nice and moist and put the pan in a dark place. I think CPVC is a very odd choice for the outlet fitting as I don't plan on drinking whatever leaks out of my hot water heater. I would have preferred much more common regular PVC which I have pleanty of spare pipe and fittings of laying around... but whatever. This one was available in 26" with fast shipping. Another nit-pick for this and every other drain pan I've seen... why cant they lower the drain hole so the pan can drain completely? The drain hole is up 1/2" (more if you account for the wall of the fitting). So if this pan is sitting level, and actually gets water in it, there will always be at least 1/2" of water that doesn't drain out. I guess to accomodate the uninitiated that sit their hot water heater directly on the floor rather than up on some cinder blocks or some kind of stand. The pan is flexible enough that I will leave a bit of the pan hanging over the edge of the stand it will be on and hang something on the outlet to flex down a bit. Or can at least flex it down manually to let it drain completely if the need arises. There is what looks like a cutout spot marked/formed about 2" in from the edge if you wanted to put the outlet on the bottom. But then you'd have to plug the hole in the side.

Does not work for a drain pan on Whirlpool watere heater.

*by B***1 on Reviewed in the United States on January 24, 2013*

Fits my Whirlpool as to diameter. The drain hole in of little use. Had to cut it so the drain faucet would have a place to sit. Only purchased the plastic pan so the water heater would quit leaving rust rings on my tile laundry room floor. Any water spilt on the floor ended up somewhere close to the water heater leaving rust rings when all the water could not be reached to mop up. Plastic will not tust. In order to drain heater via faucet outlet, you would need at least three inches clearance from side of pan so for a 20" diameter heater, use at least a 26" pan. You can't drain any water from the heater without clearance to attach a drain't hose. If you can't drain some of the water, you can't easily raise a 320lb heater to attach a drain hose. You could always put bricks under the heater to lift it above the drain pan. But then what would be the need for the drain pan? If your heater leaks, you need to replace it. The only purpose for the pan as far as I can see is to protect your floor from spills. If that is all you need, why have a drain hole for the pan?
