The indoor controller is smaller and runs on an external transformer (included) that you would plug into a standard electrical outlet. This controller is the outdoor version of the X-Core controller; meaning that the transformer is internal (inside the gray panel at the bottom of the controller box), so as not to be exposed to weather. For safety the transformer must be hard wired to the power source; no plug-in. Additionally, this outdoor model, as you can view in the photo, has a locking cabinet to keep the controller protected from certain critters and weather.
