The lock and release system is awesome. I didn't even know there was an alternative until I purchased this set. Build quality seems great and the grips are perfect. As far as hand-tools are concerned I am sold on Irwin.---Update 5/28/16---I have now used these locking pliers a couple of times and as expected, they worked great and impressed. I had a stripped nut that I needed to grip. Adjusting the pliers to the right sized and locking on was easy and the hold was tight. Once clamped on removing the nut was no problem. Of course, the mechanics of the release system are just great. In fact, calling them "bargain-basement" is being too kind. They were difficult to adjust and difficult to unlock and just plain unwieldy.Not so with these pliers. In your hand they "feel" like a good, well-made, quality tool. Hefty and no rough edges. The rubber grips are a pleasure to hold. And best of all, they unlock with one hand. Keep your thumb in place, slide your fingers under the handle and press outward against the handle and they release. Nice.Get these for yourself or someone you like.
