There is no common wire like that used in 110v controller/24v solenoid set up. This controller operates as promised, just waiting to see how it goes through a wet winter. **Q: How long a battery would last?** A: If you use a good industrial strength alkaline battery it should last a season or 2. Be sure to remove the battery over winter when you bring the timer inside. **Q: Does this galcon dc controller work with orbit's dc solenoid?** A: This timer has its own soleniod.
