## Overview

This set of 10 ultra-thin (0.51mm) linear polarizing film sheets offers high extinction ratio and excellent light transmission, making them perfect for reducing glare on dash cams, cameras, and LCD screens. Easily cut to size, these durable plastic sheets come with protective static cling films on both sides and are widely used in scientific experiments, photography, and educational demonstrations.

## Description

10 polarizing film sheets for experiments involving polarization of light High Contrast Linear Polarizing Film featuring excellent extinction ratio and high transmission. Ideal for a range of imaging applications, teaching experiments and more. Available in sheets, can be easily cut with scissors to fit any application need. Linear Polarizing sheets are used in experiments relating to birefringence, light scattering, polarized light experiments, light reflection, Brewster's angle and how polarized sunglasses work. IMPORTANT(!) please note that on both sides there is a protective film sheet. You have to remove it gently before use. Once removed, the polarizer sheet will be revealed, clean and smooth. Common uses: 1. Get two of these (or cut one in half) for an excellent classroom demonstration of aligned and crossed polarization filters. Aligned, two pieces have about the same effect on unpolarized light as one piece. Rotate them and at 90 degrees, no light passes through (quite black). 2. Great for taking the glare off tattoos for photos 3. Use this to dim a LCD screen that has no brightness adjustment option 4. Cut down the glare paintings while photographing. 5. Use this sheet to modify your microscope and polarize tissues. 6. Use the polarizer to remove flash. 7. Use the polarized sheet for our security camera that's facing out a window to remove the glare off the footage 8. This is being used to control/minimize specular highlights in a photography application.

Review: Works well to create polarizing microscope - I used these to temporarily convert a regular bright field microscope to a polarizing microscope. You need the top filter above the objectives and below the eyepiece. You need the bottom filter just above the light source. You turn the bottom filter to get the effect you want. It works great with crystals like ascorbic acid crystals. These sheets seem to be high quality and a good value. They are sufficiently thick, but cut easily with scissors to make circles. They have protective plastic on both sides which you peel off. The protective plastic is held on by static cling. There is no adhesive.
Review: Tryer - Don't stick too well.

## Features

- It is a plate of plaestico polarizacioen that can be used for various Polar experiments
- Perfect for preventing reflections of your dash cam; Can also be used to protect your dashboard from reflection
- Since it is a thin sheet, you can cut it with scissors; Easy to adjust by cutting to fit your dash cam Please tear off the protective film before use

## Questions & Answers

**Q: what size are they?**
A: What ML Jim said! The Features & details section says “Sheet size 8 cm x 8 cm (3.1 in x 3.1 in)”

**Q: is this linear or circular?**
A: Linear

**Q: Do these have adhesive on one side of them?**
A: No. They do have plastic film on both sides that you might want to remove, depending on your application (reduces optical quality but protects the film surface). The plastic film itself is on the polarizing film by static cling (no adhesive).

**Q: Please confirm the size whether units are in inches as given or in cms? If in inches the thickness of 0.5" is meaningless. S.Lakshminarayana**
A: The film sheets are exactly 8 cm square. I have no calipers to measure the thickness, but with the protective film removed, and placed end-to-end on a flat surface with a sheet of card stock, the "feel test" indicates they are very close to the same thickness. Hope that helps.

Don't stick too well.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works mostly O.K., but not well for blue wavelengths
*by B***K on April 15, 2015*

For classroom demonstration purposes, they work well enough. However, the set I got did not work well in the blue wavelengths. Assuming the set I got wasn't unusual, this is how you would see it: take two polarizing film sheets and orient them at 90 deg to each other to make a "crossed polarizer" setup. This should be completely dark, but when you look at something white (such as your computer screen), you will see a dark blue color, which is what you would expect to see for a polarizer that does not work well in the blue wavelengths. At first I thought this was due to UV (I was trying it with sunlight) that gets through the polarizing film (many visible-wavelength polarizers are terrible at IR or UV), but I see the same thing with incandescent light bulb (not capable of producing UV). So, if you are looking for a cheap classroom demonstration, yes, these are good enough, but if you need a polarizer that works reasonably across all visible wavelengths, these are not good enough (OTOH, if you are just using He-Ne laser wavelength, it's probably not too bad). P.S. And, yes, you see this after removing the plastic film, so birefringence in the film, etc. is not the problem.
