A big part of the program involved doing primate follows in the jungle - and since gibbons, red langurs and orangutans are arboreal they were up in the trees pretty high sometimes so binoculars were a required item for this course. I was able to clearly see up into the tall trees where they were and able to collect data on them better with these. My only complaint was the weight, they did weigh my day-pack down a bit but to be fair when you're trekking through the very hot & humid jungle anything you carry seems heavy.
