It’s not a “matte” but it isn’t glossy. You can really control the depth of the shade by blotting with a tissue for a more natural look or deepen the shade by layering the product. I have several L'Oreal lipsticks and I love their staying power and solid pigment. My one “complaint” is their lipsticks have a perfumed smell. It’s not unpleasant and doesn’t bother my lips but it is strong. The smell dissipates fairly quickly but if you’re very sensitive to smells it may not be the brand for you.
