I can block out everything in my noisy household with these- pisses my wife off to no end. Money well spent... **Q: Do this have bass boost?** A: Our JBL LIVE 500BT does not have a Bass boost function but you may download the JBL Headphones App and use the custom EQ settings and adjust the bass to your preference. **Q: Do these require power to use or can you use the 3.5mm cord as a back up when power dies? Do you have to have power to use with cord?** A: You can use the included audio cable as a backup if/when the power on the headphones dies. No power needed. Actually, when you plug in the audio cable tot he headset, the Bluetooth gets bypassed and the headphones become normal passive headphones. The battery life and bass are improvements over the e55bt models. The color selection was better than most competitors and reasonably priced. With added features like wireless phone calling and Alexa made this a smart purchase. There are some drawbacks that are minor inconveniences but not substantial enough to deter my enthusiasm for my headphones.These headphones wireless charge lasts days not hours. They charge at a moderate pace and easily sync with my mobile devices, iPhone and iPad, the Alexa voice assistant is a nice extra that is convenient and I wasn’t necessarily looking for but grateful it’s added. Coupled with my Amazon Music I listen for hours skipping songs without having to touch my devices. Calls are clear and I don’t have to raise my voice like I did with my earbuds. The bass and noise canceling work well, sometimes to well when people are trying to speak to me.They are comfortable to wear and have heft without being bulky or heavy. Even while being used wired the cord is lengthy enough as to avoid needless jerking. Superficially I like the green color and was looking to avoid austere colors like black or white.Some drawbacks are the instructions are cumbersome and the font size is light and microscopically tiny. It feels like I have to take the headphones off to utilize some of the functions( off/on switch volume and Bluetooth) it seems like they could have been placed better or on separate earphones. For the price these oversights are easily forgiven.If you’re looking for an upgrade on your wired or wireless headphones and need a cost effective model with nice extras these headphones are great. If your an audiophile you may need to look elsewhere. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ My Favorite Headphones *by A***A on December 20, 2020* These are by far my favorite headphones to date. I’m at my computer for hours daily either gaming or simply watching entertainment on the internet and I’ve been through countless headphones with none of them fitting the needs I have. I need headphones that are comfortable that don’t hurt my ears, no wires to fumble around, great sound quality, noise cancellation and also a battery that won’t die every 8 hours. So far I have always had to trade some of those things for another, however not with these. These headphones are perfect in every way. The battery lasts for a non-countable amount of hours. I throw them on the charger once a week for like an hour and I have never heard a battery low indication since buying them. The sound quality is A tier, as you’ll never get the same sound from these as you would with S tier Bose or Sony without spending another $200... but you get so close. I came to these after trying the JBL 400BT and my biggest complaint was how the sit on top of your ears and compresses them making it very painful to wear for longer than 40 minutes. After buying these that sit around your ears and not on top of them I realized how stupid it is to buy on ear headphones. Lastly the noise cancellation is great. So long as you have some volume from your media source going into the headphones the outside world is silent. If that’s not your thing all the time these have built in microphones that pick up exterior sounds like your voice and things in your environment and play them into your headphones just with a slight sound level decrease from your media source. These are my favorite headphones I’ve ever had and I cannot recommend them enough, if just one person reads this and buys them my duty has been fulfilled ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ $100 headphones. *by A***D on June 6, 2021* They're good but not excellent. You're not getting a "steal". These are worth exactly $100. Personally, I'm pretty happy with them at this price point, but I will probably be looking to upgrade to the Bose QuietComfort at some point in the future.Tip: you can disable the voice assist in the jbl headphones app.The battery life is actually surprisingly good. I can use them pretty hard for a couple days and still keep going.The best thing is that they are actually proper OVER-ears. I used a pair of on-ears once and I refuse to ever buy them. Too painful and not as good sound isolation.I do believe these are worth the extra money over various cheaper or chinese knock-offs. You're essentially paying for reliability (I've never had a single issue with these JBL's, or any of their products).I actually never use the ambient or talk thru modes. I was hoping they would be good, but they're just meh.My main gripes:1) They get uncomfortable fast. The band doesn't really have any padding, so after about 1-2 hours they will start to hurt at top of head. (However, I am bald shaven, so that definitely makes it worse for me than most folks).2) They aren't that loud. On airplanes, my prefered listening volume is at exactly 100%, so these work fine, but you can also tell that there's some audio quality loss once pushed past around 80%, so I wish they had more volume. (However, if you plug in the aux cable, the volume is almost twice as loud and higher quality when pushed, so it's largely a bluetooth thing.)EDIT: Prices have dropped and you can now get the LIVE 650 for $130 (they were $200 when I purchased my 500's, and I didn't want to spring that much), I would recommend going for the 650's.
