Review: Great pair of boots. - UPDATE: Everything below still goes, but I ended up sending back the 9 and getting an 8.5. They're perfect now. The 9s were just too big. I'm looking to find the best conditioner/waterproof because the color on these is fantastic. Wearing them today to break them in and they're comfortable out of the box. Beautiful shoes and absolutely no faults I can find. I'm wearing two pairs of socks as well just in case, but so far, so good. High quality and looking forward to years of wearing these. There is some wear already and creasing in the leather after a little bit or wearing. My guess is that the leather is a little dried out, but I plan on conditioning them anyway, some stuff on the way. The other reviews I've seen show that these shoes (and any leather shoes) MUST BE CONDITIONED and WATERPROOFED. That's how the boots really last. The stitching and construction is great, but any leather no matter how expensive, will weather. My sizing advice: If you normally have some room in your shoes at the end (about a pinky length if the shoes are too skinny) then go down a whole size from your most common shoe size. As stated below, my shoe size is all over the place, but 9.5 fits the best in most and the 8.5 here is perfect. As everyone has said, these run large. Almost too large. I wear a 10.5 in Adidas, 10 in Nike, 9.5 in Puma, 9 in boots and dress shoes so I went with a 9. I maybe could even get away with an 8.5, but it would be a problem in width wise I think. The boots look huge compared to my foot, but an extra pair of socks and they fit nicely. The leather and cordovan/burgundy color is gorgeous. The finish is nice and as some others have pointed out, there are some concerns with the stitching, although it doesn't appear that anything is actually "wrong." Boots feel sturdy and are heavy. I have not worn them yet as it's supposed to be 90 degrees this week, but looking forward to fall. I have 4 other pairs of boots, and none of them were this expensive. Comparing them, these seems to be much more substantial and have a cleaner finish and look. (I have Timberlands, Aldo, Clarks, and Bullboxer). They look great with jeans and cords and the burgundy color is the new neutral so I'll get lots of good wear out of these. I'll need to add protectant as I bought these in hopes of not having to replace them for a few years like I did with my Docs - those lasted 6 years!
Review: High quality and style at a great price point - Pros: - rich leather construction, on par with boots that cost much more - 360 degree Goodyear welt construction - full vibram outsole with non-aggressive v-bar tread - waxed flat laces look great - made in USA Cons: - fits about 1/2 size large. - no additional insole; makes the boot feel even larger - no speed hooks When I opened the box, the quality of these boots was immediatey evident. The rich leather is smooth, and the color deep and uniform. People make a big deal about Horween leather, and while this is not (as far as I'm aware) I think you'll still be impressed nonetheless. When I first tried them on, I felt like my feet were swimming in them. I would agree that these fit about 1/2 size large, however... I wear a size 13, but there is no 12.5 option. I also ordered a 12, but I couldn't even get my foot in them without completely unlacing each boot. So as a solution, I looked into insoles. I found Chippewa insoles at my local work gear store, and trimmed them to fit (there is no removable insole from the factory). However they were entirely too thick and the boots were painfully tight. I then went back on desertcart and ordered a bunch of different insoles, eventually settling on a pair of ecco's. Now I have a snug, much more comfortable fit that should conform to my foot nicely. While I wish for speed hooks up top, I'm willing to overlook the omission as the waxed flat laces look great and stay tied. The tongue is stitched to the quarters @ the 4th eyelet, so there is ample room to slip on and off while still keeping wind and water out. The big plus for me is the full vibram rubber sole, which allows you to go almost anywhere, even in wet conditions, making these boots very practical. Overall, very happy with this purchase. Even at full MSRP these boots are a great value, but if you manage to find a better price you have to pull the trigger. This is a wardrobe staple. The compliments are free.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great looking boot, feels great as well!
*by E***S on January 30, 2015*

I wear a 9.5 in dress shoes, sebagos and other shoes. Took advice from other reviewers and ordered a 9 M. Perfect fit. Beautiful leather, feels great and looks great. Visually inspected and no problems with quality. I wore them around the house and office for a few days this week to start breaking in. No problems. Walked about a mile today on pavement. Felt great. No heel slip, no blisters, not even hot spots. I am wearing some heavier hiking socks, but don't plan on always doing this. Not sure about other reviews, the insole feels fine, comfortable and not too hard. It's a boot. Also, if your heel is really rising a lot, the boot size may be too big for you. Boots do take time to break in and crease on the top of the boot near the toes. Until they bend here, your heel can lift up instead. I have not noticed this in this boot. These are not quick boots to put on. There are no speed eyelets near the top like hiking boots, which would be nice. Those could be fitted later by a cobbler. The laces are long enough to leave them all laced up, but loosened entirely so the foot can be slipped out and in. To tighten, reverse process. These boots are too nice to really work outside in and get muddy. They are not sturdy enough and do not fit tight enough to hike in. Great for kicking around town, working in the garage, or wearing to work. UPDATE: 2/7/2015 Break in period is officially over, it really was just a couple hours. They are also easier to get on/off now. If your feet hurt from these boots after a few days of wearing, something is wrong. I ended up getting some Danner's Boot Dressing(Clear) to condition the boots today. I've used the brown color on my Danner hiking boots and it goes on nice. The clear does NOT discolor the leather at all. I used my fingertips to apply a thin coat, and rubbed it in. In addition, the Danner dressing has some water-resistant properties. That's good enough for these boots. I have Obanauf's LP for my other hiking boots, and I will not use that on the Chippewas. I dropped by the Red Wing store the other day and purchased a pair of leather laces for the Chippewas. The brown waxy laces they came with are OK, but I feel the leather laces look really nice with the Tan Renegade color of the boots. I also treated the laces with the Danner's Conditioner. See my review of the DANNER BOOT DRESSING (Protects,Revives,Prolongs,Conditions & Breaks in Boots) 1.7oz/48Grams (CLEAR) to see a picture of the boots after the dressing was applied, and laces.
