I have 2 of these and I have a good 400lbs on 1 and 200 on the other and they have held just fine. If it fell, it wasn't installed correctly. **Q: Is the ceiling anchor bracket 16 to 24 inches long so one can span perpendicular over two ceiling joists to properly secure the rack?** A: Janet,First off, my ceiling joist run front to back in my garage. My racks are mounted on the back wall with the 48" width going front to back and the 96" length side to side. The predrilled mounting holes are spaced 16" apart along the long side and 24" on the side. Therefore, they are ready as you receive them for for both. The vertical adjustable drop straps are mounted every 48" so it doesn't make any difference which spacing your ceiling joist is since every 48" they match up anyway. If you put the rack in a back corner of a garage you could mount it with the short side on the back wall and the long side along the side wall. In that case you would need to either have 24" spacing in your ceiling joist or buy 3 48" (you can buy them this length at a hardware store, Lowes or Home Depot) pieces of angle iron to span 16" joist then use any of the holes available to get the 24 and 48" spacing at the ceiling. The boxes were lighter than I expected them to be. After opening up the box and laying everything out I was very skeptical. Everything seemed a little too light to me, not heavy duty enough. But I pushed on.The hardest part for me was locating the joists. My garage is drywalled and my ceiling is 10 feet tall. Between using a stud sensor and then the tried and true method of hammering little nails through the drywall locating the center and each edge of the joists. I wanted to put the lag bolts dead center in the joists. My joists ran perpendicularly to the racks.After I got the ceiling brackets up the rest was fairly easy. I assembled the racks into 2 pieces, not 1. I was working alone. I was able to get one section up and installed. Once the first section was up the rest was easy.After I got them installed, yes, they are a little on the light side but they are heavy duty enough for the job. They are light but well engineered, well designed. I swung from one of the brackets for a test. I weigh around 210 pounds.There is nothing to stop swaying from side to side. I installed this rack 2” off of a wall. I will mount (2) 8 foot 2X4’s between the racks and the drywall to stabilize it.I was able to complete this in about a day working alone. I’m 67 and I take a lot of breaks lol. Really it took about 3 hours per section. 2 each 4X8 sections.Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase.
