I started with slamming it against my mattress as hard as I could then went outside and beat it against a tree and nothing bad happened. It took some scuff marks but nothing bent or rattled after. If I went as hard as I could and kept going I'm sure it would break, but it took three good whacks so I'm sure it'd handle some light sparring all day.It's made really well. I was worried the handle would just be a cylinder but it's a nice oval shape, the plastic handle fills the hand nicely. The sections of the blade are almost as thick as a butterknife, so the whole thing has some weight to it and it certainly doesn't feel flimsy. It feels premium, as much as a collapsible sword can. The tassle feels cheap, but it's just decoration you don't even have to attach. Unfortunately because of the nature of the pieces sliding against each other there are some small scuff marks where the shiny metal looks worn down, and no doubt there will only be more of those with more use but what's a sword without some battle damage right?Be careful when extending the blade. The instructions recommend just holding the handle and swinging it out. That's what I tried and it was nearly impossible to close it again. Those sections lock together VERY well. I had to stab it into the floor with all my weight to collapse it. The majority of collapsible swords seem flimsy, and much too light. For a collapsible sword, this seems substantial and made well for this type of item. The balance is good. It is heavier than other collapsible (which is good), but could be heavier still. One eventually wishes to use a full-length sword in this practice, and they are heavier than even this model. I would also have liked a more rounded hand-grip. All this said, I still like this quite a lot for what it is designed to do -use in practice.
