Primus Anthology - O thru Z: for Guitar and Bass (Play It Like It Is Guitar & Bass)

Primus is great, and great fun to play. These tabs for the most part are accurate. Some songs are not, but close enough that you'll get it. I really only have two problems, one is that some songs that are listed and tabed as played on a 6 string bass, are actually played on a 4. This is only a ittle bad because some songs sound better on a six, and are more fun. Problem two is a little one and one you probably wont share. I hate that they include the traditional music, if you can read music you would want a music book not a tab book. It cludders the book up and takes up space book. As a bassist and a big fan of Les Claypool and Primus I have to start off by saying thatthis book isn't all that good (The bass anyway). Also 'Tommy the Cat' and'Wynona's Big Brown Beaver' are played on his 4 string bass not the 6 string.Some of the bass chords for the six string bass in this book sound way off fromthe actual songs too. You are better off using the 'Ultimate Guitar' website tofind far better and more accurate tabs for Primus bass.

This book is pretty darn good for the most part. But I would just like to say that Southbound Pachyderm is played on a four string bass, not a six string like this book says. I've never seem him play it on a six string.

This book is great

This book is a much needed explination of the insanity of Les Claypool's bass style. His slap bass style with bits of tapping, usually on a 5 string bass, occasionally fretless. I have been trying for years to decifer les's music, and now it's finally possible. worth every penny and every second of practice. This is perfect for any primus fan who is instrumental, but be warned, Les' music "is!" as hard to play as it sounds. Have fun.

Tabs are very close to the actual way that Les Claypool plays his songs. Notations are a little difficult to remember, but they are the same throughout both anthologies and Sailing the Seas of Chesse (play it like it is) tab books so it isn't impossible to learn them quickly. Also be aware that a lot of the songs are played using a 6string bass (like old Les) and makes it difficult to get all of your money's worth out of it without first owning a 6string. Overall a great buy!

This is an alright product. The tabs are layed out so they are easy to read and understand. I was a little disappointed that several of the songs my music students were wanting to learn were not in there! Oh well. It does have a variety of songs so you can learn some primus no matter what your playing level is. If you like primus and you want to play it like it is, get this book.
