The reason I replaced the 1st cable id because the clasp came apart from the cable. It lasted about a year and this one I've had about 6 months So far so good. It is outside in all weather and there is a little rust on it but it is not a priblem. Know that borh the tie-out cable and the clasp are heavy. Much too heavy for a medium size dog or smaller and probably too much for the weight and bone structure of a dog like a greyhound. It is made for a full size, thick neck dog, I think. Also, the clasp opens outward not in like most clasp so you need to be able to coordinate that. No worries about the collar slipping out of the cable. For those fellow dog lovers please know that he wears a Martingale collar to lessen the stress on his neck and he only does it a couple of times a day if that. I'm not happy!** A: I never even measured it but it is not as thick as the picture. Holds up fine though.
