It helps save time of not having to place the iron on a rubber piece. The cover doesn't show burn or water marks. I think this will last for many, many years + always look like it's new. I've used other Laurastar covers and after a few months or 1-2 years, the edge usually show significant wear/tear. The other annoying part with the Laurastar fabric kind covers is the yellow/brown marks. The X-Treme will stay black/new looking.
