I use it with an insert placed inside it. Since it is plastic lined on the inside I can reuse it over and over again throughout the day by changing just the insert.P.S. - for inserts I am using Softspun 4 layer microfiber large size inserts. They have a white top layer which stays completely dry even after my daughter pees. So the top layer stays dry and the wetness sinks to the bottom. I plan to use it with mee mee nappy liners so that I can just throw away the liner in case of poop and save my time and insert from the extra washing effort and in case if it's just pee I can wash the liner along with the insert and reuse it. It is convenient to place a rag of cloth inside the waterproof diaper and fix it onto the baby. The only shortcoming is that the cloth to be kept inside may not be of perfect diaper size leading to displacement at times.
