I wanted something that I could control my iPhone from and take calls with and this thing is just the ticket. It has a lot of features I'll never use but the most important one, the sound, is top notch! I bought this over the other decks in the Alpine because of the huge 3-line display, might not be important to everyone but user experience is important to me and it was worth the additional cost! I have a budget system in my Toyota 4Runner (Alpine Type-S 6" Components up front, stock speakers in the rear and a Rockford Fosgate 10" Punch Sub, powered by a cheap mono amp) that I thought sounded decent with the old stereo but nothing to write home about. This new unit was a huge upgrade and made my modest system sound so much better - highs are brighter and lows are tighter and I no longer have to crank the volume to get a good sound. Looking forward to hearing it after I spend the time setting up the time correction! Note: I have encountered one problem that I haven't manage to fix yet - the deck will freeze when streaming audio via Bluetooth and trying to select another song using the search feature. Changing sources will bring it back but it is annoying. I'll just be using the USB connection for my iPhone til I get in touch with tech-support and figure it out. Chance to try out the Blue tooth hands free yet at freeway speeds but at a stop light it works great. At freeway speeds will be the test if it is better than my older parrot Bluetooth setup. Also not sure if I can change the settings on Pandora to stop it from automatically playing since that is using my data for my iPhone 5S. The phone syncs good with the stereo. My old stereo would show a phone book listing past phone calls or my phone book I have not seen that on this stereo yet but have not really tried yet. Nice stereo I'm running it with my Alpine PDX5. I bought the cde148bt from them brand new and it would not except any cds. It just growls at ya. I just sent it back, and hoping to upgrade to the 149, but any more probs like this...and I will be done with them.....and maybe these high-end Alpines too..... **Q: Does the artist/song information display during Sirius/XM mode? Is it scrolling or fixed (similar to text shown on the box photo in this ad)?** A: I can't speak for the satellite radio, but the text does have scrolling options. It can be fixed, scroll on command, or scroll automatically. **Q: Is the face removable just like the old alpine radios for protection? If you're like me stuck with a single DIN option and trying to decide between Kenwood KDC-X998 and this Alpine CDE-HD149BT I can save you some trouble. Both are top of the line DIN units from respective companies. I've decided on Kenwood first. Got it, installed it, uninstalled after one week, returned. Not going into the technical parameters, sound quality, etc. which are pretty similar on both. But on the Kenwood, literally - you've got to pull over to change the radio station or any sound setting, etc. And before that you have to go back to college and take a "Operating a Kenwood" course, lol. The unit is so user unfriendly I don't know what the designers were thinking? Also generally looks cheap with its shiny black and silver plastic. The Kenwood's tech support advised it's technically impossible to see the artist/song info while streaming Pandora music through BT. Well, Alpine seems to have all the answers. Well made, great design/display/fonts, very intuitive and easy user interface, I don't remember looking into the manual much. And sure enough full song/artist info display plus track controls(FF/pause) through BT. Super happy and highly recommend it! Feel free to ask any questions if you have them.
