## Description

Product Description Product Description: A TDS meter (aka ppm pen, nutrient tester, tds stick) is an inexpensive and convenient digital tool to instantly check your overall water quality. TDS = Total Dissolved Solids, which is any salt, metal or mineral in the water. With the push of a button, the TDS-EZ can tell you your overall water purity level, which will be displayed on the screen in ppm (parts per million). The lower the TDS level, the purer the water, with 0 ppm being pure H2O. The TDS-EZ is great for checking your tap water quality, or knowing when to change a filter. (The meter does not test for biological contaminants.) The TDS-EZ is a great tool for drinking water, water filtration and purification, hydroponics (test your nutrients), aquariums, RO/DI systems, pools and spas, and more. From the Manufacturer Water Quality Tester with Auto-off Function.

Review: Very Good meter worth the price - When buying a TDS tester I suggest that you also get the HM Digital TDS Calibration Solution (342 PPM) to periodically re-calibrate your HM Digital TDS meter or HM Digital Water Quality Tester. It is available through desertcart for around $9.00, and is worth having to periodically check your drinking waters TDS level. This meter performed very well. I first tested the meter with the calibration solution. I took three readings with this solution before measuring tap water, purified bottled water, and Reverse Osmosis filtered water. All readings were taken at a room temperature of 75 degrees, but water temperature was not tested, nor was the PH of the water. Calibration Solution: Reading #1 gave 328 PPM, #2 gave 331 PPM, #3 gave 336 PPM. I followed the direction each time I took a reading, and gave the TDS meter several minutes to air dry in between readings ( about 5 minuets) During this time the TDS solution was covered.. I noticed that each time I tested the solution the reading went higher. So I took two more readings following the same procedure as before. Reading #4 330 PPM, Reading #5 329 PPM. I have to think that the meter is fairly accurate. Readings were all in the plus or minus 3% range. Next I tested purified bottled water Reading #1- 3 PPM, Reading #2- 5PPM, Reading #3- 3PPM. Then I tested Reverse Osmosis water after changing the filters two days before this testing. My R/O test range was between 15-22 PPM Regular tap water is a very "Hard" water out here in the Desert Southwest. It ranged from 185 to 240 PPM. Pretty awful . We don't drink the water out of the tap unless we have to. The result show a fairly accurate and good TDS tester. I believe some of the variances in the readings may be attributed to water temperature and or PH or both. Even though I gave this tester a 5 star rating I would invest a few extra dollars for the model that has the (ATC) automatic Temperature control compensator , and the PH tester. This meter did perform as advertised , and performed well. It is worth the price, and for now I'm happy with it. Hope this helps you make a decision.
Review: Accurate! - I have several other tds meters. One is so cheaply made that you have a hard time turning it off. And it measures at least 2 ppm more than this one which is much more accurate. I like the translucent dark blue look. And when I press the on/off button it turns on and off THE FIRST TIME unlike other units I have owned. It has a simple on/off and another button to hold the number so you can take it out of the water and look at it. Simple but more of a quality unit compared to other units but not much more money at all!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How many times can the tester be used?**
A: FROM HM DIGITAL: Unlimited. Eventually, you will need new batteries, but the TDS-EZ can be used an unlimited number of times.

**Q: What temperature was this device calibrated at? I noticed that readings vary with temperature. How do I get a consistent reading?**
A: FROM HM DIGITAL: The TDS-EZ was calibrated at 25 degrees Celsius (77F), but more importantly, the TDS-EZ is one of HM Digital's most basic meters and does not have Automatic Temperature Compensation (ATC). Therefore, since it does not have ATC, you will see discrepancies when testing hotter or colder from the baseline of 25C/77F.If your water is typically around this temperature, it won't be much of a difference, but if +/-10 degrees or more from 25C/77F, it's a good idea to get a meter with ATC, such as HM Digital's TDS-3, TDS-4, AP-1, COM-80 or COM-100.

**Q: can the battery be replaced? if so, what battery does it take?**
A: Yes, the batteries can be replaced. It takes 2 LR44G "button cell" batteries like the batteries that go in watches, ect. The unit has an auto shut-off so the batteries should last a good long time.

**Q: Can this be used to check for collodial silver in the 10 ppm range in a solution of distilled water?**
A: No it can't. It doesn't detect specific elements or chemicals. Though the way calcium, lead, and collodial silver may dissolve would effect the numerical value of TDS and if you knew that in 100 ml of 45 deg Celsius water would only hold X# ppm of an element you might be able to figure it out based on the numerical value shown.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Decent Device
*by N***K on November 30, 2025*

It gets the job done. Easy to use. I'm sure there's a little error in a device so wallet-friendly, but that doesn't matter if you're just comparing a before and after.
