One slides into the other. I have this set and use them daily. One of the best purchases I have made for plumbing work. **Q: What size is open end and length** A: There are 2 open ends. One is a basic 12 point 1/2" wrench. The other is a combination 9/16" & 15/16" square wrenches. Tool screwed together is 1' long but you can make it 2 pieces; one 1' long, the other is 8" long. It seats inside handle of longer wrench. **Q: How do you use this tool on a straight valve** A: You COULD remove the stem, but it seems like an extra step when you can use pliers or a wrench with it to hold the valve while you tighten the nut. Most plumbers I’ve known do that. A crescent wrench to the valve body won’t scratch the finish. **Q: Is this a “Bait and Switch”?** A: Ok have this tool. There is no bait and switch. It is 2 wrenches,but one slides and screws together with the other. Straight compression stops you can't use both sides, need to get another wrench in there to hold the stop, but it is still nice to have the correct size wrench for the nuts.
